New Faculty Member – Rev Dr Afereti Uili

The Pacific Theological College (PTC) has been pleased in recent weeks to welcome back onto the Faculty Rev Dr Afereti Uili, who has returned to Fiji with his wife Samata.

Rev Dr Afereti Uili was inducted on Friday 16th September 2022 to be Senior Lecturer in Old Testament and Hebrew Language at the college, having previously served as Senior Lecturer in Biblical Studies at PTC from 2007 to 2010.

Rev Dr Uili is an ordained minister of the Congregational Church of Samoa (CCCS), a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (Samoa Conference) and has served as General Secretary of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (2015 – 2016), as Principal of Malua Theological College in Samoa (2010 – 2015), as Deputy Principal and Dean of Malua Theological College (2000 – 2007) and as Old Testament Lecturer, also at Malua Theological College (1998 – 2007).

Rev Dr Uili has also served as Church representative to the Board of Directors of the Samoa National Provident Fund and was a Volunteer electrical engineer for the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (CCCS).

His research interests include postcolonial perspectives on theology and the bible, indigenous cultures and the bible, environment and the bible, gender and the bible, transformative education a la Paulo Freire, Church and state discourses in Samoa with regard to the bible and socio-economic justice and the bible.

Rev Dr Afereti Uili and his wife Samata have raised seven children and have a gentle sense of humour.
