Research & Publication

The pursuit of academic excellence in higher education requires a strong institutional research culture. For this reason, research and publication are key components of PTC growth over the next six years. While PTC aims to contribute to regional stability through theological education for justice and to engage the local communities in the process, there is a lack of resources to assist in this process. To do this, PTC aims to support the development and publication of home-grown Pacific literature and resources produced by Pacific scholars in the islands. It will work to systematically mainstream local and indigenous concepts and paradigms in and across its educational offerings. Another area in need of attention is the general lack of literature, both in foreign languages and in Pacific vernaculars that are shaped and influenced by local churches and communities themselves based on their own ways of being and knowing.

There are many challenges around the availability and cost of print resources written by and for Pacific peoples. To address this issue of centralisation and control by mainstream publishers, PTC aims to produce locally grown, contextually relevant and affordable Pacific print resources. This will necessitate the identification of influential writers from the region and supporting their writing towards publication. It will also involve growing the next generation of both leaders and scholars. Through the Strategic Plan, PTC aspires to foster and strengthen the research and publication culture at the college. An important aim is to produce research that leads to the creation of new knowledge and original creative endeavour at least in those fields in which Research Masters and PhDs or equivalent Research Doctorates are offered.
