The President of Kiribati His Excellency Taneti Maamau hailed the Pacific Theological College as a well-known historical teaching and education institution making immense contributions in the nurturing of students to live good lives. “I acknowledge the contribution of this institution in nurturing people to live good lives especially when the world seems upside down with issues and challenges – some of them critical,’ His Excellency Maamau said.
‘Looking at the syllabus of PTC I see it has grown dynamically especially in addressing things like gender issues. Kiribati students from both the Kiribati Uniting Church and the Kiribati Protestant Church welcomed the President at the Islander Missionaries Memorial Chapel. Singing the Teirake Kaini Kiribati (national anthem) the students and members of the PTC Community commenced the afternoon’s programme according to Kiribati state protocols. Vice Principal Professor Derek Armstrong welcomed the President and the First Lady Teiraeng Maamau. President Maamau said in the buildup to his Foreign Leaders meeting at the Pacific Islands Forum, he has been visiting Kiribati nationals in Fiji. ‘I came to listen and will take back home to the government or other, what you have to share.’
